Health Canada is receiving reports of suicidal ideation in patients taking finasteride (Proscar, Propecia).

Finasteride labelling will be updated to inform clinicians of the potential link to suicidal thinking...even though the risk seems small.

It's thought that finasteride may block the production of allopregnanolone, a hormone that's important in depressive disorders.
