For scheduled splenectomies, check if patients got meningococcal ACWY vaccine and meningococcal B vaccine pre-op. It’s ideal to give these at least 14 days before surgery to allow time to build immunity.
If not, give them before discharge. And check that your hospital’s vaccine protocols are updated...to align with the latest recommendations.
