Aim for Moisture Balance When Managing Pressure Ulcers
Pressure ulcers are a big concern for patients with limited mobility, poor blood flow, etc.
Emphasize prevention. For example, suggest applying a barrier prep (Desitin, etc) to limit moisture damage...or a moisturizer on dry skin.
Continue to recommend off-loading pressure areas, frequent repositioning, correcting malnutrition, etc. But advise to avoid doughnut cushions...these limit blood flow and can increase ulcer risk.
