Warning NOT to combine clarithromycin (Biaxin) with cisapride (Prepulsid) or pimozide (Orap)

Abbott is now warning NOT to combine clarithromycin (Biaxin) with cisapride (Prepulsid) or pimozide (Orap).

This is similar to the current warning about taking clarithromycin with terfenadine (Seldane) or astemizole (Hismanal).

Clarithromycin slows the metabolism of these drugs in the liver. High levels of these drugs can cause fatal arrhythmias.
