Erythromycin should NOT be taken with cisapride (Prepulsid)
Abbott is now warning that erythromycin should NOT be taken with cisapride (Prepulsid).
Erythromycin can slow the metabolism of cisapride. This allows cisapride levels to build up...increasing the risk of arrhythmias.
This interaction is similar to the one between erythromycin and terfenadine (Seldane) or astemizole (Hismanal).
