Rocephin for acute otitis media
The FDA just approved using Rocephin for acute otitis media. It's the first SINGLE-DOSE antibiotic approved for this use.
A single IM injection of Rocephin (ceftriaxone) works about as well as 10 days of oral amoxicillin...TMP/SMX (Septra, etc)...or cefaclor (Ceclor). But it's LESS effective than 10 days of Clavulin.
Side effects with Rocephin are similar to using oral antibiotics...usually diarrhea and rash.
