The U.S. Food and Drug Administration is now requiring a new warning on Monistat packages about an interaction with warfarin.
An interaction between warfarin and systemic "azole" antifungals has been recognized for years.
Miconazole, itraconazole, and other "azoles" can inhibit warfarin metabolism and therefore increase its anticoagulant effect.
