Systemic quinolones are usually avoided in children...due to concerns about possible bone and joint disease in kids. But quinolones are useful for treating resistant infections in children...and are usually well-tolerated.
Cipro can be a good choice when other antibiotics can't be used. You might see Cipro used when treating complicated urinary tract and kidney infections in children as young as 1 year old.
