Lots of supplements for cholesterol now contain policosanol... One-a-Day Cholesterol Plus, CholeRx, Cholest-Response, etc.
Policosanol is a waxy substance that's usually derived from sugar cane...but it can also come from rice, wheat, beeswax, yams, etc.
A few researchers say that policosanol 10 mg/day works as well as some low-dose statins. But the evidence is shaky.
