More men will be given the option of taking finasteride (Proscar) to PREVENT prostate cancer.

This is analogous to using tamoxifen to prevent breast cancer.

Years ago, a large study showed finasteride reduces the absolute risk of prostate cancer by about 6% in men 55 and older...or one less case of prostate cancer for every 16 men treated.
