Ondansetron is being used more for acute nausea and vomiting
Ondansetron is being used more for acute nausea and vomiting...and for good reason.
It used to be considered a big gun...for nausea due to chemo or after surgery. Now that the tabs are generic and cost much less, older antiemetics are falling out of favour.
Older agents (prochlorperazine, etc) never had much evidence supporting them and they're plagued with side effects...sedation, extrapyramidal reactions, respiratory depression, etc.
