Acetaminophen is usually a good place to start for mild to moderate pain. Explain that it's not linked to birth defects...and isn't a problem for breastfed infants.
NSAIDs (ibuprofen, etc) should usually be avoided during pregnancy...but are okay during breastfeeding.
