You'll hear more debate about whether cholinesterase inhibitors (donepezil, etc) or memantine (Ebixa, etc) are helpful for Alzheimer's.
A cholinesterase inhibitor is often started for mild to moderate Alzheimer's...then memantine is added when a patient gets worse.
But these meds aren't very effective...and new evidence suggests the combo isn't better than a cholinesterase inhibitor alone.
