Women will have a new option for treating uterine fibroids called Fibristal (fye-BRISS-tal, ulipristal).
Almost one-third of women of reproductive age in Canada have uterine fibroids. Many require treatment or surgery to reduce excessive uterine bleeding, pelvic pain, infertility, etc.
Fibristal is a partial progesterone antagonist that reduces fibroid growth and size. Women will use it for up to 3 months to shrink fibroids before surgery.
