Bexsero (BEX-sare-roe, meningococcal B vaccine) will be the first meningococcal vaccine to cover serogroup B in Canada.
There are 12 serogroups of Neisseria meningitides...but most cases of meningitis are caused by serogroups A, B, C, Y, and W-135.
Currently all provinces and territories routinely immunize young children against serogroup C (Menjugate, etc). Some also routinely immunize adolescents against serogroup C or give a quadrivalent combo of serogroups A, C, Y, and W-135 (Menactra, etc).
