Remind Patients to Gently Mix "Cloudy" Insulins...Even in Pens
Insulin pen mix-ups and errors continue to occur and cause problems.
Changes in pen devices...or use of multiple insulins that look similar...can lead to mix-ups. Tell patients to check the pen's name and colour before EACH dose...and ensure they understand device differences.
Remind patients to gently mix "cloudy" insulins (NPH, etc) by rolling AND inverting pens 10 times each...to avoid improper dosing.
