New evidence suggests pioglitazone may improve CV outcomes in patients with a prior stroke or TIA and insulin resistance or PREdiabetes.

Using pioglitazone for about 5 years prevents a second stroke or heart attack in 1 in 36 of these patients, and slows progression to diabetes in 1 in 26...but does not decrease overall mortality.
