Recommend Better Alternatives to Codeine for Pediatric Pain or Cough
New restrictions will limit the use of codeine and hydrocodone in children.
Codeine is already contraindicated in kids under 12 years for ANY indication. Now Health Canada will include adolescents and teens under 18 years for surgery pain after a tonsillectomy or adenoidectomy.
Health Canada also recommends not using hydrocodone cough meds in children under 6 years.
