Watch for Signs of Pancreatitis in Patients Taking Methimazole
Health Canada is warning about acute pancreatitis in patients taking methimazole (Tapazole) for hyperthyroidism.
It's based on a handful of cases reported internationally since hitting pharmacy shelves over 60 years ago.
Explain researchers aren't clear how methimazole might be linked to pancreatitis...or if specific factors increase risk. But it seems to occur within 3 months of starting methimazole...regardless of dose.
