PEP is different than PRE-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP), where patients with ongoing HIV risks take preventive antiretrovirals long-term.

Access to nPEP is key. Antiretrovirals need to be started ASAP, usually no later than 72 hours after exposure...and continued for 28 days.
