Don't Be Too Quick to Jump on the Vascepa Bandwagon
You'll hear cautious optimism about cardiovascular benefits with the new Rx omega-3 fatty acid, Vascepa (vas-EE-puh, icosapent ethyl).
Vascepa is a form of EPA (eicosapentaenoic acid). Fish oil supplements have both EPA and DHA (docosahexaenoic acid).
Both EPA and DHA lower triglycerides, but DHA may also slightly raise LDL...which is the idea behind Vascepa only having EPA.
