Xydalba (dalbavancin) will be a new IV antibiotic for skin infections.

It's a cousin of vancomycin and is bactericidal against gram-positives...such as methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA).

But Xydalba is given as a SINGLE dose or in 2 divided doses one week apart...since it has a long half-life. Vancomycin is usually given twice daily for 7 to 14 days.
