even small doses of some drugs can be toxic in young children
Many people don't realize that even small doses of some drugs can be toxic in young children.
Toddlers can get into trouble with just 1 or 2 doses of Lomotil, clonidine, tricyclics, calcium channel blockers, quinidine, quinine, hydroxychloroquine, or sulfonylureas. Sulfonylureas can also cause brain damage due to hypoglycemia.
Opioids can cause CNS depression or death in toddlers with a dose of 100 mg of codeine, 20 mg of methadone, or even less.
