    COMT (catechol-O-methyltransferase) is an enzyme that metabolizes levodopa to an inactive metabolite.

    This is different from the decarboxylase enzyme that's inhibited by carbidopa or benserazide. Decarboxylase metabolizes levodopa to dopamine.
