Nasal corticosteroids (Beconase, Flonase, etc) are the most effective for allergic rhinitis. They're often used as initial therapy...especially for moderate to severe symptoms.
In fact, these nasal sprays are usually more effective than oral antihistamines...and often work as well as the two combined.
