treatment for gonorrhea has changed

The recommended treatment for gonorrhea has changed...in some areas of Canada.

The incidence of ciprofloxacin-resistant Neisseria gonorrhoeae is on the rise. Alternate antibiotics are now recommended in areas that report greater than 3% resistance to fluoroquinolones.

A single dose of cefixime 400 mg orally or ceftriaxone 125 mg IM should be used for areas with resistance.
