Extended-release Niaspan is the first prescription-only niacin product now available in Canada.

Niaspan reduces total cholesterol, LDL, apolipoprotein B, and triglyceride levels. It also increases HDL.

It's NOT proven to be bioequivalent to OTC niacin products and therefore isn't interchangeable.
