Pregnant women often ask what OTC cough/cold meds to use.
Tell patients to start with nondrug therapy (fluids, saline nasal spray, hard candy, etc)...choose single-ingredient products...and avoid meds in the first trimester if possible.
Decongestants. Start with oxymetazoline nasal spray (Afrin, etc) for a few days ONLY...to avoid rebound congestion.
