new oral antiviral for chronic hepatitis B called Baraclude (entecavir)

Health Canada has approved a new oral antiviral for chronic hepatitis B called Baraclude (entecavir).

It will be used as an alternative to Intron A (interferon alfa-2b)...Heptovir (lamivudine)...or Hepsera (adefovir).

Intron A is effective for suppressing the hepatitis B virus and requires a shorter treatment duration than the oral antivirals.
