Think of it as similar to Januvia.

Onglyza (saxagliptin) and Januvia (sitagliptin) are incretin enhancers. They prolong the action of endogenous incretin hormones by blocking their breakdown by the enzyme, dipeptidyl peptidase-4 (DPP-4). This leads to more insulin release after eating.
