Many patients with strep throat get an antibiotic dosed more frequently than necessary.

Group A streptococci are still very sensitive to penicillins...and once- or twice-daily dosing is usually enough.

For most kids, recommend 10 days of penicillin 40 mg/kg divided twice daily...or amoxicillin 50 mg/kg ONCE daily, up to 1 g/day.
