Most kids should NOT get prophylactic antibiotics for recurrent urinary tract infections (UTIs).

About 8% of girls and 2% of boys develop a UTI by the age of 7...and about 10% to 30% of these UTIs tend to recur.

But antibiotic prophylaxis does NOT benefit most kids...there's no proof that it prevents long-term complications...and the Canadian Paediatric Society says not to use prophylaxis in most kids.
