Watch for Ketoacidosis With the "Flozins"

See updated FDA information (December 2015) concerning SGLT2 inhibitors (Flozins) and ketoacidosis/urinary tract infections.

Colleagues will ask you whether Invokana (canagliflozin) and other SGLT2 inhibitors or "flozins" are linked to ketoacidosis.

This seems to be a flozin class effect...and has researchers scratching their heads about the mechanism.

It's different from the ketoacidosis we typically see with VERY high blood glucose. It's happening when glucose levels are near normal or only slightly elevated.
