Advise Nit Combing after Lice Treatments
New guidelines will help head off old concerns about head lice.
Continue to recommend OTC permethrin 1% (Nix, etc) or pyrethrins (R&C, etc) first. Advise reapplying in 7 to 10 days...even if labels say otherwise.
Suggest Resultz (isopropyl myristate) or Nyda (dimeticone) for patients wanting to avoid insecticides...or if other options aren't effective. Some evidence suggests they work as well as permethrin. But explain these are newer and have less safety information.
