Sort Through Treatments for Sunburns and Other Minor Burns

Summer is leading to patients asking how to manage minor burns.

Advise treating sunburns similarly to minor heat burns caused by accidentally touching a stove, hot pan, curling iron, etc.

Nondrug strategies. Suggest using cool water or applying a cold, wet compress on the burn for 10 to 30 minutes. Caution to avoid ice...it can constrict blood vessels and worsen the injury.
