Famvir (famciclovir) for genital herpes
February 1996
The FDA just approved using Famvir (famciclovir) for genital herpes. Until now, Famvir was only approved in both the U.S. and Canada for treating shingles (herpes zoster).
Famvir is similar to acyclovir (Zovirax).
The main advantage is that Famvir is given just BID...instead of 3 to 5 times a day like acyclovir.
