Valtrex will now be used for more cases of genital herpes.

Valtrex (valacyclovir) used to be approved only for treating a RECURRENCE...not a new case.

Treating an INITIAL episode is now approved. Valtrex works best if the patient starts within 48 hours of an outbreak. Patients take 1000 mg BID for 10 days to treat an initial episode.
