New guidelines for managing diabetes will be released this month by the Canadian Diabetes Association.

Experts are focusing efforts on people with traditional risk factors as well as those with risk factors not recognized before...abdominal obesity, polycystic ovary syndrome, schizophrenia, and patients of South Asian descent.

Experts will recommend screening patients who are 40 years and older every 3 years...this is down from age 45.
