new prescribing restrictions for rosiglitazone

Health Canada is announcing new prescribing restrictions for rosiglitazone (Avandia, Avandamet, and Avandaryl).

Rosiglitazone will no longer be approved for monotherapy...or in combination with a sulfonylurea...UNLESS metformin is NOT an option.

Health Canada's new labelling changes will also say not to use rosiglitazone in patients with ANY stage of heart failure.
