Health Canada is NOT yet recommending a booster dose of the chickenpox vaccine...like U.S. authorities are.
A second shot of varicella vaccine will be recommended in the U.S. for all kids age 4 to 6...after the first injection at 12 to 15 months.
Up to 20% of kids who get a single dose of varicella vaccine can still get chickenpox. These kids usually have a milder case...but they can transmit it to others who may develop more complications.
