More patients will be started on a beta-blocker before surgery.
The American Heart Assoc recommends beta-blockers for certain surgical patients to reduce the risk of heart attack and death.
Beta-blockers lower heart rate and reduce coronary ischemia. This seems to reduce cardiac complications in high-risk patients.
